BENSALEM, Pa. — Authorities say a woman escaped a fire in her Pennsylvania home but died after she apparently went back in to try to rescue a dog.

Officials in Bensalem near Philadelphia said three other people, including a firefighter, were injured in the blaze, which was reported at about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Bensalem police said initial reports are that the 39-year-old got out of the house but went back in to try to save a dog. Her name wasn’t immediately released.

Two other residents were taken to Aria Torresdale Hospital for treatment and a volunteer firefighter was treated for a minor injury.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
