Pennsylvania school board tables dating violence rules
BRODHEADSVILLE, Pa. — An eastern Pennsylvania school board has tabled a policy on dating violence.
The Pocono Record reports some members of the Pleasant Valley School Board are concerned school officials might be wading into legal areas better overseen by police or parents.
The policy, which has been removed from consideration for now, would have encouraged children to report allegations of dating violence to school officials. The allegations would then be investigated by their school principal.
The board says the policy was recommended by the Pennsylvania School Boards Association.
Gov. Tom Wolf and the state Department of Education earlier this year launched the “It’s On Us PA” initiative to combat sexual assault in K-12 schools, as well as colleges and universities.
The district is about 70 miles north of Philadelphia.
