PHILADELPHIA — Police say a suspect accidentally shot himself during a Philadelphia home invasion and the injury led to his quick apprehension.

LOGO arrest

Chief Inspector Scott Small tells WCAU-TV two men broke into a north Philadelphia home at about 11 p.m. Wednesday. A woman and her two young children were on the second floor.

He says the duo demanded she empty her purse, and the woman’s children began to cry.

Small says one man told her to make the kids stop crying and fired his gun, striking himself in the leg.

The men fled, and a short time later, the injured suspect showed up at a hospital for treatment.

Small says hospital officials contacted police. The victim was brought there and identified the man.

The second suspect remains on the loose.
