A woman died Wednesday in a Hopewell Township apartment fire, according to the York County coroner.

Sandra Mitzel, 72, was declared dead at 4:39 p.m. on Dec. 18. Her cause and manner of death are pending, according to the coroner's office.

The fire was reported at 4:26 p.m. along Marsteller Road, between New Park and Draco roads, according to the York County 911 Center's online WebCad system.

It took firefighters only 15 minutes to put the fire out, said Ira Walker Jr., assistant fire chief for Eureka Volunteer Fire Co.

"It wasn't a whole lot of fire," Walker said, adding that it was a "room and contents" blaze.

The woman who died lived in the housing complex, according to a news release from the York County Coroner's office.

Three cats also died in the fire, Walker said.

Damages to the complex were minimal, except for some smoke damage to a few other units, he added.

The fire marshal is continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.

There will be no autopsy, however, additional testing will be performed including tests to determine how much carbon monoxide was in Mitzel's blood, according to York County Coroner Pam Gay.
