The driver of a car that slammed into the back of a loaded school bus in Conewago Township Thursday morning was, like those on the bus, a student in the Northeastern School District, according to Superintendent Stacey Sidle.

Masey Rae Dacheux, 17, of Bull Road in Dover Township, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the York County Coroner Pam Gay, who said the teen died of head injuries.

She was a high-school student, Sidle noted in a Facebook post.

No students on the bus were hurt, according to Deputy Chief David Lash of Northern York County Regional Police.

The crash happened about 9:05 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, near the intersection of Cedar Run Road.

Masey's car rear-ended the bus, which was carrying students to middle and secondary schools in the Northeastern School District, Lash said.

The bus driver, like the students on the bus, escaped injury, the deputy chief said. There were no passengers in the car, Lash said.

About the crash: The bus was heading southbound and was stopped in the 4100 block of Lewisberry Road while a student boarded.

That's when a car struck the bus from behind with such force that it became lodged underneath the back of the bus, Lash said.

About 9:30 a.m., students were loaded into a different bus that had been summoned to the scene, he said.

Lash said Lewisberry Road was closed until about 1:30 p.m. between Canal and Butter roads so police could investigate and the scene could be cleared.

That portion of Lewisberry Road was dry and clear of ice when a York Dispatch photographer arrived in the area.

The students riding the F&S bus involved in the crash were checked by ambulance crew members and cleared of injuries, according to the school district.

The students were then taken to Northeastern Middle School, where they were checked a second time by school nurses and staff, the district's Facebook post states.

The students' parents and guardians have been notified, according to the district.

Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to call them at 717-292-3647, or email information to tips@nycrpd.org.

How to help: Some of Masey's loved ones have created a GoFundMe account, seeking $8,000 to help pay for her funeral expenses. To donate, go to www.gofundme.com/ywhpu-macey.
