While Hurricane Michael is expected to hit Florida and then Georgia later in the week, weather experts aren't anticipating the storm to affect the York County area much, if at all.

On Wednesday, Oct. 10, John Banghoff, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in State College, said the York County area could see some rain from Hurricane Michael on Thursday, Oct. 11.

But AccuWeather meteorologist Tyler Roys said a cold front will be primarily responsible for the rainfall Thursday.

"Michael will not be impacting the York area," he said.

Rain: Banghoff estimated about an inch to an inch and a half of rain could potentially hit the area. The expected cold front should keep Michael at bay for the most part, he said.

"Sort of the combination of the cold front and Michael will bring some rain Thursday," Banghoff said.

He said there is a marginal risk of localized flooding in some areas.

"We don't expect any widespread issues, though," Banghoff said.

Roys said AccuWeather is expecting about three-quarters of an inch of rain Thursday, mostly in the southern part of the county.

Cold front: Both weather services are anticipating significant long-term changes once the cold front hits Thursday.

Banghoff said it will be "drastically colder" at the end of the week, with highs in the 50s instead of the 80s.

"Things are certainly changing," he said.

Both he and Roys said that cooler weather should stick around.

“Once this front moves through, we’re really going to be going towards those fall temperatures that you kind of expect for this time of  year," Roys said.

The two meteorologists said temperatures are expected to be cooler through the rest of the month.

“(It's) a big change, but one I think many people will be happy to be having,” Roys said.
