With just more than a month until the Nov. 6 midterm election, the state's 10th and 11th District congressional candidates have scheduled debates to show voters what they have to offer in York County and surrounding areas.

While both races have garnered national attention, only the 10th District candidates have had the chance to speak on statewide issues in front of an audience.

But next week the 11th District candidates, first-term Republican incumbent Rep. Lloyd Smucker and Democratic challenger Jess King, will have their chance.

The two will be debating 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at Millersville University's Winter Visual & Performing Arts Center in Millersville, Lancaster County.

It will be the first and potentially only debate of the race.

King has recently picked up momentum in the race, polling nine points behind Smucker and receiving support from the co-founders of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream.

Barbara Hough Roda, community liaison for LNP Media Group, and Lancaster Chamber President Tom Baldrigew will moderate the event.

The free tickets are all claimed for the debate location, but an additional viewing site will be available at the neighboring Biemesderfer Hall. Those interested can get free tickets at the university's Student Memorial Center, Room 103, at 21 S. George St., Millersville.

Lancaster Online will also be livestreaming the debate.

10th District: In the 10th District race, three-term Republican incumbent Rep. Scott Perry will be debating Democratic challenger George Scott at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, on WGAL.

The debate will be the second of the race, following the candidates' first debate last month at the Country Club of York, and it will only be aired live on the station.

Since the previous debate, Scott has been endorsed by former vice president Joe Biden and has launched multiple television ads.

The station is partnering with the American Association of University Women to sponsor the event, and the moderators will be WGAL’s Janelle Stelson and Mike Straub.
