A heat advisory has been issued for York County Wednesday, Sept. 5.

The National Weather Service said the advisory will go into effect at 11 a.m. and will continue until 6 p.m.

Temperatures will reach the lower 90s, the weather service said, and there could be heat index values of more than 100 degrees.

The highest heat index values are anticipated during the afternoon and evening, according to the weather service.

The weather service advised limiting or rescheduling strenuous outdoor activities. It also advised staying hydrated and to check up on elderly, sick, and those without air conditioning.

The excessive heat is affecting York County schools as well. Eastern York School District posted on its website that the district will be dismissing Kreutz Creek and Candochly elementary schools at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 6.
