York County asking residents to submit storm damage information
Storms and flooding have been a common sight in York County over the past two months, so officials are urging residents to report any damages from July and August storms in search of federal financial aid.
The York County Office of Emergency Management plans to compile and file the damage reports to receive financial aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, according to a Wednesday, Aug. 30, news release.
Any damage that was caused by storms between the time frames of Saturday, July 21, to Friday, July 27, and Wednesday, Aug. 1 to Wednesday, Aug. 15, can be submitted by using the county reporting tool here. The tool can also be found by going to yorkcountypa.gov and looking under Emergency Services, then Report Damage.
The county's efforts are being coordinated with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA), which plans to request a disaster declaration from the federal agency, the release states.
Such a declaration would allow money to be allocated to the county to help recover from damages caused by the storms.
Before the declaration is issued, the county "must show it has had a substantial impact from the storms," the release adds.
While there isn't a specific amount of financial loss from damages that would warrant federal assistance, "PEMA is close to reaching a level that would make it easier for FEMA to make a federal declaration," the release states.
