Significant delays expected during I-83 work

Significant delays are expected this week while maintenance crews do patching work on sections of Interstate 83, according to PennDOT.

The state Department of Transportation said in a news release that patching work will be done between Exit 16, Queen Street, and Exit 18, Mount Rose Avenue, Monday, Aug. 27, through Thursday, Aug. 30.

PennDOT said the work will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. but could extend beyond 3 p.m., depending on conditions, which include the delivery of asphalt and how long it takes to cool.

During operations, traffic will be limited to a single lane, and significant backups and delays are likely, according to the release.

PennDOT said the patching operation is necessary to help preserve the pavement and prevent potholes during the winter and early spring.

Drivers are asked to be alert during the work and slow down when approaching the work area.
