A bridge closure in Hellam Township that was expected to happen the weekend of Friday, Aug. 10, has now been postponed two weeks.

The state Department of Transportation said in a news release Friday that the Route 462 bridge over a tributary to Kreutz Creek will now close the weekend of Aug. 24.

PennDOT said unfavorable weather expected for the weekend caused the delay.

Crews will work to remove existing span that was built in 1934 and replace it with a precast concrete box culvert.

Starting at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, Route 462 and Campbell Road between Stonewood Road and Freysville Road will be closed to traffic for that weekend, according to the release.

Until Route 462 is reopened, traffic will be detoured using Route 24, Route 30 and Frysville Road, PennDOT said.

Route 462 should reopen by 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, if not sooner, according to the release.

Work on the bridge, which includes roadway reconstruction, as well as new guiderails, signs and markings, is expected to be completed by the end of September, according to PennDOT.
