Body Rhythms Life Fitness offers free classes Saturday during 7th anniversary celebration York Dispatch


Have you been looking for a fitness class that offers more than just exercise? Body Rhythms Life Fitness co-owner Monica Melendez invites the public to drop in and try a class.

“Saturday we have a big celebration,” said the York City resident. “We’re going to have lots of free classes — everything that we offer here at the studio.”

From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, Body Rhythms Life Fitness in Springettsbury Township will offer free classes in celebration of their seventh anniversary.

Melendez and her sister, Melissa Deitz, of Springettsbury Township, were born in Puerto Rico and moved to the mainland with their parents 31 years ago. They began teaching fitness in 2009, and after two years of holding classes in a variety of locations, the duo decided to open their own center.

“We are based in group fitness,” Deitz said. “We try to create a sense of community and family, so everybody knows people’s names, everybody says hello. We try to do activities outside of just here — we help each other. We are family.”

Kelli Masters, of Washington Township, has been with the sisters since they started. Masters is a nursing professor at York College.

“I like Zumba because I’ve always danced, and I really like that,” she said. She also likes Zumba toning because it helps with abs and arms.

“I just love it because I don’t like boring exercise,” Masters said. “It has to be fun. I come here and they’re great — they make exercising fun, if that’s possible.”

Robyn Liegey, of York Township, has been taking classes for four years, since she joined with her daughter, who has since moved out of the area. Liegey is still a faithful member.

“We all feel like we’re family,” Liegey said as she waited for the Body Sculpt class on Wednesday. She said there are “classes that Monica and Melissa teach that are so fantastic that you can’t go anywhere else to get their Zumba choreography.”

“Everybody is supportive of one another when we’re struggling with one class or another,” Liegey added. “You can be at all different fitness levels and still enjoy the classes.”

Saturday class start times run from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The first class is always free, and there are four options available for membership, from drop-in classes to unlimited monthly membership.
