York City Mayor Michael Helfrich has named Tommy Williams as the city's acting business administrator following the resignation of Michael Doweary.

Williams has served as the deputy business administrator since December 2015, according to a Thursday, July 26, city news release.

Before taking the position in York City, he served as the capital planning analyst for the Baltimore Comprehensive Planning Department.

Doweary, who served as deputy business administrator from July 2013 to January 2015 before being promoted, resigned to pursue a career with Capital Region Water in Harrisburg, the release states.

He will remain in his position until Friday, Aug. 3, the release adds.

“I’d like to thank Michael Doweary for his many years of service to the people of York," Helfrich said. "Mr. Doweary received many accolades during his tenure as business administrator and, throughout my short time working with him, I can tell you that they are well-deserved.”

The mayor also praised the technical and budget expertise of Williams, expressing excitement for his future role in the city government.

"I am looking forward to working closely with Tommy Williams over the next several months as we work to fill the business administrator position," Helfrich said. "Tommy’s technical expertise and knowledge of the budgetary process make him a perfect fit for the acting business administrator role.”

The York City Human Resources Department will use the services of Walters & Company Executive Recruitment, a Springsted Company, based in Dallas during the recruitment process to fill the official business administrator position, the release states.
