Med students get hands-on practice at WellSpan's annual EMS Skills Day
First-year medical students from WellSpan York Hospital get hands-on experience at York County Fire School York Dispatch
Nearly 30 mostly first-year and a few fourth-year emergency medial students got to experience in-the-field patient care during Wednesday's annual WellSpan York Hospital EMS Skills Day.
The students rode in an ambulance while attempting life-saving skills on a mannequin, used the Jaws of Life and other rescue tools to break vehicle windows and cut off doors, and took part in a mass casualty drill where they were "decontaminated."
EMS Skills Day provides med students with the chance to see the care their future patients receive in the pre-hospital environment after an incident.
