I-83 ramp work to finish this week, more work ahead
The roadwork on three exits on Interstate 83 that caused several traffic jams last week is nearly complete, according to a PennDOT official.
Mike Crochunis, spokesman for state Department of Transportation, said Friday, July 13, that milling and paving work on the Exit 21 (Route 30) and Exit 22 (North George Street) ramps were finished.
Milling work on ramps for Exit 24 (Emigsville) was finished as well, according to Crochunis.
Work started Monday, July 9, and was expected to go until Wednesday, July 18.
Crochunis said crews will be out paving the Emigsville ramps on Monday, July 16, and Tuesday, July 17.
However, work on the interstate isn't expected to stop there.
Crochunis said after the ramps are paved, crews will start working on mainline work on I-83 southbound, between Exit 32 (Newberrytown) and the Emigsville exit.
Crews will saw and excavate then fill the road with materials, according to Crochunis. During that time, roads will be down to one lane. That work is expected to continue into the end of next week.
