East Hopewell Twp. bridge to close for up to 3 months

A bridge in southeastern York County will be closed to traffic for up to three months, according to the state Department of Transportation. 

PennDOT said in a news release Monday, July 2, that the bridge that carries Muddy Creek Forks Road over an unnamed tributary to the south branch of Muddy Creek will be closed starting Tuesday, July 10. 

The bridge will be closed so that crews can remove and replace the superstructure of the bridge at the intersection of Muddy Creek Road west of the south branch of the creek, PennDOT said.

Work will include removing and replacing the concrete bridge deck and superstructure of the single-span, 75-year-old bridge, the release states.

While the bridge is closed, drivers will be detoured through High Rock Road and New Park-Muddy Creek Forks Road, PennDOT said.

The bridge was built in 1943, and once the superstructure is replaced and the roadway is reopened, it will be removed from the state's list of structurally deficient bridges, according to the release.
