Read with June and Johnny Cash during Words and Whiskers bi-monthly reading event at Petco. York Dispatch

It's not too late. You can still see Johnny and June Cash, but only at the Eastern Boulevard Petco and only until the pair of bonded bunnies is adopted, together.

On Saturday, June 23, Petco hosted its bimonthly Words and Whiskers reading event. York County SPCA shared Johnny and June with readers from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Johnny and June snuggled softly and moved about inside a pen toward the front of the store.

On the floor next to the large, soft white and brown bunnies sat Jenny Sanders, of York Township, and her son Dylan, who is 6.

"We just happened to see the bunnies in the paper, and my son loves to read,"  Sanders said.

"I'm a teacher, so I thought that's a wonderful way for him to practice his reading and enhance his skills," she added. "He loves animals too."

Sanders says that they already shop at that particular store with their dog, Maverick.

"He really did enjoy it," Sanders concluded, "and I think the bunny rabbits enjoyed it too."

Johnny and June have been together since 2014, and the SPCA will only adopt them together. Johnny is neutered and June is spayed, and they are 4-5 years old, according to the SPCA. For information about the pair, go to
