The York County Coroner’s Office is seeking help locating the family of a county prison inmate who died early Thursday, June 21.

John Henry Thomas, 64 and formerly of York City, was found unresponsive in his cell at the Springettsbury Township facility, according to a new release from the coroner’s office.

Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful, and he died without regaining consciousness, the release states.

Deputy coroners were dispatched to the York County Prison around 2:13 a.m. and certified Thomas’ death.

Thomas reportedly had medical issues, and his death likely resulted from those issues, according to the coroner’s release.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, June 22, at Lehigh Valley Hospital.

Anyone with information about Thomas’ family is asked to called the York County Coroner’s Office at 717-840-7617 and leave a message.
