ProPublica report shows recordings of immigrant children separated from families
A recent ProPublica report includes audio of immigrant children who were separated from their families sobbing inside a U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility, prompting agents to make jokes.
The nonprofit investigative news outlet's Monday, June 18, report detailed a recent U.S. government "zero-tolerance" policy that has led to more than 2,300 children being separated from their parent since April.
The policy calls for the prosecution of any immigrant crossing the border illegally and the separation of the parents and children brought along.
The accompanying video, shown below, contains audio of 10 Central American children crying and yelling for their parents in a facility where separated children are held.
Upon hearing the cries, one Border Patrol agent quips, "Well, we have an orchestra here."
