The flood watch issued for York County has been extended.

The National Weather Service said the county will under the watch starting 2 p.m. Thursday, May 17, and will now go until 8 a.m. Saturday, May 19.

The flood watch was initially supposed to end the evening of Friday, May 18.

The weather service said rainfall Friday will average 2 inches or more.

Periods of heavy rain could cause flooding in small rivers and streams starting Thursday afternoon into Saturday, according to the weather service.

Localized rainfall of up to 4 inches is possible, the weather service said. Water levels are already high from recent rain, which increases the threat of flooding, according to the weather service.
