A tree fell on a York Township home Wednesday night, sending one to the hospital, according to a fire official.

York Township Fire Captain Zach Miller said a tree fell down on a home in the 1600 block of Camp Betty Washington Road at about 11 p.m. Wednesday, April 25.

Miller said it looks as though the tree, which was already in bad shape, fell because recent rains softened the ground. He said the homeowners were planning on having the tree removed

“Last night, it just ripped out of the ground itself," Miller said Thursday.

Leann Eberly, a resident of the home, said a branch fell on her boyfriend.

The tree went into the home and some of the debris fell onto him, Miller said. Crews were able to remove the debris, and he was taken to York Hospital by ambulance, according to Miller.

Eberly said the two were sleeping when it happened.

"We were sound asleep — I had no idea what happened," she said.

Miller said the fire department did not have to do much more than helping the residents inside.

"It's definitely a call we don't run often," he said. Miller added that it's definitely something they train for.

Eberly called the event traumatizing but said she was OK after the ordeal.

"We're OK, everybody's OK — that's all that matters," she said.
