Coroner identifies York County Prison inmate who died after self-inflicted injuries

A York County Prison inmate died in York Hospital on Monday, April 9, after suffering self-inflicted injuries, according to the York County Coroner's Office.

The coroner identified the inmate as Everett Palmer Jr., 41, of Sussex County, Delaware.

Palmer was living in a single cell at the Springettsbury Township facility, and he began hitting his head against the inside of his cell door after becoming agitated about 4:20 a.m. Monday,according to a news release.

He was originally taken to the prison's medical clinic, where he became unresponsive about 4:45 a.m. and was then taken to York Hospital, according to the coroner.

Despite medical intervention, Palmer was pronounced dead about 5:45 a.m., the release states, and the cause and manner of his death are pending an autopsy, scheduled for 8 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, at Lehigh Valley Hospital.

State police are investigating, the release adds. Requests for additional information from state police were not immediately returned Monday afternoon.
