York City has canceled street sweeping on Wednesday and Thursday, March 21 and 22, because of the winter storm forecast to hit the area this week.

Street sweeping will resume on Friday, March 23, at midnight for streets posted for 4th Friday schedules.

The first day of spring is delivering York County a winter storm warning, which the National Weather Service has issued for 8 a.m. Tuesday through 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The weather service warns of the potential “for long duration wet snow and mixed precipitation” that could dump at least 6 to 10 inches of snow and sleet on the area.

Travel could be difficult during the warning, particularly during Wednesday morning’s commute, and motorists should be prepared for periods of reduced visibility, the weather service said

Also, the “heavy wet snow could bring down tree limbs, causing power outages,” according to the warning.
