York StoryKids show off what they've learned
Three students from local photographer Randy Flaum's York StoryKids project held a showing Sunday, Feb. 11, at Martin Library to display what they've learned.
Through York StoryKids, Flaum teaches visual story-telling, using still photography and video.
Each of the students — Emory Henz, 10, of Stewartstown; Brennen Speal, 13, of West York; and Anthony Beard of York — selected a person whose story they wanted to tell. Henz selected a swimming instructor, Speal a school teacher who started a coffee house, and Beard chose a female auto mechanic.
"I learned a lot of things in the class, like the shakiness, how to keep it (camera) still," Henz said.
Flaum has a few classes in the works for 2018, including a project called "Brag About," which will task students with producing a video of something in York County that they think is special.
The project will be held in conjunction with the Cultural Alliance of York County to help promote the nonprofit's e-branding of the county.
