Coroner releases name of Dover-area man killed by falling tree
A Conewago Township man was killed when a tree he was cutting down fell on him, according to police.
The 45-year-old man and his wife had been felling trees on their property in the 200 block of Jug Road on the morning of Monday, Jan. 15, when the mishap occurred, according to Lt. David Lash of Northern York County Regional Police.
Officers were called there about 10:15 a.m., he said.
Clifford Pelter was pronounced dead at the scene, according to York County Chief Deputy Coroner Claude Stabley.
Stabley said Pelter's cause of death was blunt-force chest trauma, and the manner of death has been ruled accidental.
No autopsy is planned, Stabley said.
Northern Regional Police are investigating the death, according to Lash, who said it is not considered suspicious.
Pelter's wife was present when the large-diameter tree killed him, the lieutenant confirmed. She called 911 for help, he said.
Fire/rescue personnel arrived at the scene quickly, according to the coroner's office, but it was too late to help Pelter.
