Founder of Red Lion business struck, killed by truck on the job
A man was run over and killed by a pickup truck at a Red Lion family business, according to officials.
Frank Pantano, 73, of Vista Drive, was run over about 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at Frank's Marble and Granite, 125 Householder Ave., according to the York County Coroner's Office.
Pantano was driving a 2003 Chevrolet with its bed full of concrete powder at a family member's business when he tried putting the truck in park and got out of the vehicle, state police said.
The truck continued to move forward, and Pantano tried stopping the truck himself, police said, but he was unable to and was run over.
Emergency responders were unable to remove Pantano from under the truck, and Pantano died at the scene, the coroner's office said.
According to police, there was no mechanical malfunction in the truck when the incident occurred. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified because of the work-related death.
Pantano's cause of death is multiple blunt-force trauma, with the manner accidental.
Business: The coroner's office said Pantano was working at the business, which is owned by a family member. According to the business' website, Pantano founded it in 1972.
Born in Italy, Pantano worked on natural stone with his uncle, and he then came to the United States in 1967, when he became a citizen.
He started his business in the York County area, the website states.
"Frank introduced the most beautiful tiles from around the world to the York County area," his biography states.
Pantano introduced marble and granite slab processing to the area and was the first to start a slab fabrication shop here as well, according to the company.
He got out of the tile business and expanded the shop to be able to accommodate the future of countertops, eventually leading to having a “state of the art” facility, his biography reads.
He was involved with the day-to-day business and still helped install countertops, according to the website.
