Thirteen children escaped injury, but a minivan driver was badly hurt in a two-vehicle crash involving a school bus transporting Dover Area School District students, police said.

It happened about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, on Davidsburg Road near Salmon Run Road in Dover Township, according to Northern York County Regional Police.

The minivan, driven by a 60-year-old man, was westbound on Davidsburg Road when it crossed over the center line and crashed into the eastbound bus, police said.

The minivan driver was trapped in the wreckage and had to be freed by a rescue crew from Dover Township Fire Department, according to police.

He was taken to York Hospital with serious injuries, while the school bus driver was transported to Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, police said.

No children on the bus were hurt.

There were nine high-school and intermediate-school students on bus N10, and all were cleared at the scene by ambulance crews. The students contacted their parents, then either were permitted to go home or returned to school, where they were further examined by school nurses, according to a statement from the Dover Area School District.

Also escaping injury were the bus driver's four children, police said.

The crash is under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call Northern Regional Police on the departmental tip line, 717-467-TELL (8355), or email your information to tips@nycrpd.org.
