Northern York County school buses collide in Cumberland County
Two school buses transporting children from Northern York County School District collided Wednesday afternoon in Cumberland County, sending at least 25 students to area hospitals, according to a county spokeswoman.
Rachel Bryson, communications director for Cumberland County, said police were dispatched to the scene just after noon at the intersection of Route 114 and Bent Creek Road in Silver Spring Township.
One of the school buses rear-ended the other, and 29 students were transported to one of six local hospitals with minor injuries, she said.
In an email statement, Northern York County School District spokeswoman Vangie Unti said 96 students from Northern Middle School were on the two buses. They were on a field trip to Cumberland Perry Vo-Tech, she said. Unti said 25 students were taken to hospitals.
The students were being transported by buses owned and operated Rohrer Bus Co., which contracts transportation services to the district, according to Unti.
All parents of the students involved have been notified, and uninjured students were transported back to Northern Middle School and dismissed at their normal time, Unti added.
Bryson said one of the bus drivers was transported to the hospital by personal vehicle.
Silver Spring Township Police and Rohrer Bus Co. are investigating the incident, according to Unti.
