Severe thunderstorm warning for York County

4:30 p.m. update: York County is under a severe thunderstorm warning until 6:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

A severe thunderstorm was located in Monaghan Township at 4:30 p.m. and moving east at 10 mph, the NWS said.

The storm is creating torrential downpours, 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail, the service said.

Hail damage to cars is likely, and winds could damage trees and take down power lines, the NWS said.

Update: York County is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, according to the National Weather Service.

The rest of central Pennsylvania is included in the watch area.

The NWS said there storms could develop with winds in excess of 60 mph and hail up to an inch in diameter.

Previous: York could be in for another stormy Saturday.

Widely scattered thunderstorms with gusty winds and hail are possible throughout central Pennsylvania in the afternoon and evening Saturday, Aug. 13, according to the National Weather Service.

In York County, the forecast says we'll see isolated showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m., with some storms producing heavy rain and gusty winds. 

Here's the forecast for the next few days:

Saturday, Aug. 13: 80 percent chance of rain, with thunderstorms producing heavy rain, gusty winds and possibly hail in the afternoon and evening, high 82. Rain mostly stopping by 11 p.m., low overnight 63.

Sunday, Aug. 14: Patchy fog before 8 a.m., then sunny, high 81. Sunday night, clear, low 65.

Monday, Aug. 15: Fog before 9 a.m., showers after 2 p.m., otherwise partly cloudy, high 80. Monday night, scattered showers, low 65.
