A Springettsbury Township man died Wednesday night in a crash involving his motorcycle, another motorcycle and a Jeep on the Route 30 bridge over the Susquehanna River, according to police.

West Hempfield Township Police, which responded to the scene about 10:30 p.m., said in a news release that Evan R. Grimes, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other motorcyclist, 31-year-old Alicia N. Hughes, of West Manchester Township, was taken to Lancaster General Hospital, according to the release. The driver of the Jeep was uninjured.

Grimes' cause and manner of death is pending an autopsy by the Lancaster County Coroner's Office.

Police said they believe one of the motorcycles struck the back of the Jeep, causing both vehicles to go out of control, with the Jeep ending up on its right side, while the motorcycle's front wheel and handle bars were separated from the rest of the motorcycle.

The second motorcycle might have crashed into the first motorcycle after that, police said in the release.

Police do not know what caused the initial collision.

The bridge was closed until about 3:30 a.m., and the crash is still under investigation.
