York Dispatch

More than 40 students from th York City School District helped John Beck celebrate the anniversary of his Free Hugs Project by taking to Continental Square Wednesday.

The students are participating in a three-week summer camp program hosted by the York City School Police Department, and they spent their third day of camp taking part in "Show love, give hugs, downtown day."

The students handed out cold bottles of water and snacks and cheered as passing motorists honked their horns.

York City School Police Chief Michael Muldrow praised the student, ages 9 to 12, for their hard work.

He said their participation Wednesday celebrated the anniversary of the Free Hugs Project, but at the same time the students "are taking over downtown to show the community the same kind of love they show our kids."
