'Innocent victim' dies after shooting in York City
A woman died at York Hospital Tuesday afternoon after being shot in York City, York City Police said.
Elizabeth Vega-Tirado was discovered lying on the street in the 600 block of West Princess Street at 3:40 p.m. with a gunshot wound, police said.
She was transported to York Hospital and was pronounced dead t 6:31 p.m. in the Trauma Surgical ICU, according to the York County Coroner's Office. An autopsy is scheduled for 8 a.m. Thursday at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown.
York City Police Chief Wes Kahley said it doesn't appear Vega-Tirado was the shooter's target.
"It appears she was an innocent victim who just left the corner store and was caught in some crossfire," he wrote in a text.
Further details weren't immediately available Tuesday evening.
Kahley urged witnesses to come forward.
"We believe that plenty of people saw what occurred and we are asking people to contact us with information," he said.

After detectives finished their examination of the scene, York City firefighters were called in to help clean the street. Crews cleared the area shortly after 5:15 p.m.
