Shoppers and employees at the West Manchester Township Walmart had to be evacuated Thursday afternoon after a small fire, according to a fire official.

York City Deputy Fire Chief Chad Deardorff said the fire, which was deemed electrical, happened in the meat freezer of the Walmart at 1000 Town Center Drive.

The fire was reported at 5:25 p.m., and shoppers and employees were allowed back into the store at about 5:40 p.m.

In addition to York City, firefighters from Dover, West York and West Manchester Township departments were at the scene.

Deardorff said the store was evacuated as a precaution.

"They were evacuated when we got here," he said.

The fire damaged an outlet and the cover of the outlet, and Deardorff estimated the damage at about $200.
