A man was critically injured Wednesday morning when he was struck by an SUV in York City.

Daniel Sole, 48, no address immediately available, was taken to York Hospital after the 5:44 a.m. incident, according to York City Police Capt. Tim Utley.

Sole was in critical condition at the hospital, Utley said.

Preliminary investigation has determined Sole was crossing the street at the intersection of North George and Philadelphia streets when he was struck by a westbound 2010 Toyota RAV4, according to the captain.

The driver of the Toyota, a 27-year-old man, remained at the scene of the incident and is cooperating with officers, Utley said.

His name has not yet been released.

Utley confirmed a full accident reconstruction is being done, and said the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed Sole being struck is asked to call York City Police at (717) 846-1234, or text "yorktips" and your information to 847-411.

The first blocks of East and West Philadelphia streets remained closed Wednesday morning until 8:53 a.m., according to a York County 911 supervisor.
