Several events in downtown York this month will force drivers to find alternative routes through the city and other places to park their vehicles.

The York County Community Foundation will host “Rediscover York,” a First Friday event for older adults, from noon to 6 p.m. Friday in the 100 block of West Market Street and in Cherry Lane Park, according to a news release.

The event, featuring live entertainment and vendors, will restrict parking in the 100 block of West Market Street for the duration of the event.

The city also will  hold a  First Friday event from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. The Cinco de Mayo-themed festivities will close North Beaver Street between Market  and Philadelphia streets from 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., according to a news release.

Parking along that section of North Beaver Street also  will  be restricted from 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Olde York Street Fair: The city’s annual Mother’s Day Olde York Street Fair will cause a number of street closures and parking restrictions  May 14.

The fair will run from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Starting at 8:30 a.m. May 14, seven downtown streets will close in preparation for the fair. Market Street will close between Newberry and Pine streets, while Grant Street will close from Mason Avenue to Clarke Avenue, according to the release.

George, Beaver, Duke and  Queen streets as well as  Pershing Avenue will close from Philadelphia Street to King Street.

The release advises those traveling through the city on Mother’s Day to find alternative routes and recommends that eastbound motorists  use King Street.
