Spring Grove man killed in Route 116 crash

A Spring Grove man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Route 116 in Jackson Township Monday evening, according to the York County coroner.

The crash occurred just after 6:30 p.m. near Sprenkle Road, according to Coroner Pam Gay.

John Carlos Romero, 21, of Third Avenue in Spring Grove, was driving a minivan west on Route 116 near Sprenkle Road, Gay said in a news release.

Romero had been following another vehicle, and when that vehicle turned, Romero swerved for a short distance then lost control of the minivan, Gay said.

The vehicle traveled up a small embankment, hit a building near the road, then rolled twice, partially ejecting Romero and pinning him under the roof of the vehicle, she said.

Romero, who was not wearing a seat belt, died instantly at the scene, Gay said.

Romero's family has been notified of his death, she said. There will be no autopsy.

Northern York County Regional Police are investigating the crash.
