Voter registration window closes Monday
The registration deadline is quickly approaching for York County voters who want to participate in this year’s primary elections.
Voters who have to register for the first time or change their registration information must do so by Monday in order to cast a ballot on May 16.
Completed voter registration forms can be submitted in a number of ways in York County.
New voters can register online by visiting the Pennsylvania Department of State’s website to fill out a voter registration application.
Pennsylvanians also can register in-person by visiting several York County offices in York City, including the Voting & Elections office, 28 E. Market St.; the Clerk of Orphans’ Court office, 45 N. George St.; and the Area Agency on Aging, 100 W. Market St.
Registration forms are available at state Department of Transportation photo-license centers and local armed forces recruitment centers.
Those looking to register also can do so by mail by downloading the voter-registration application and sending the completed, signed form to the York County Voting & Elections office in the county’s administrative center.
Mail must be postmarked by the April 17 deadline.
Ballots: A two-way race for York County District Attorney and the race for three open seats on the York County Court of Common Pleas are the featured contests on the May 16 primary ballots.
No candidates are running for the Democratic Party’s nomination for the post.
Amber Anstine Kraft, Tim Barker, Chuck Hobbs, James Mann, Matt Menges, Kathleen Prendergast, Sandra Thompson, Peter Vaughn and Clyde Vedder are running to fill the seats vacated by the retirements of three Common Pleas judges.
Nine district judge seats are up for election this year, and seven incumbents are running to keep their positions.
The May 16 primary will also feature mayoral races in 28 municipalities in the county, though only five will be contested, including the York City mayor's race between Mayor Kim Bracey and Michael Helfrich, president of the York City Council.
