Basketball game to spotlight police-community relations
Members of Shooting 4 Peace York are putting finishing touches on plans for the group’s April 21 celebrity basketball game.
The event, pitting former professional athletes against some of York’s local legends, will be held at 7 p.m. at William Penn Senior High School.
At halftime, Shooting 4 Peace York members will strike up a conversation with the audience about the relationship between police and the York City community.
About 400 kids have signed up to participate in an open gym session next week at Voni Grimes Gym, located at 125 E. College Ave., and the organization has several assemblies planned before the April 21 game, Shooting 4 Peace York co-chairman John Ellis wrote in an email to organization members.
Shooting 4 Peace is an anti-drug, anti-violence group looking to build bridges between police and the communities they serve.
