YorkFest 2017 will have an air of optimism and hope after local fabric artist Polly Stetler was chosen Thursday as the festival’s featured artist.

Stetler’s “Wishful Thinking” piece will be used on all promotional materials for the festival, which is scheduled for Aug. 26-27 in and around the Colonial Court House Courtyard on West Market Street.

YorkFest 2017 will kick off with an opening reception and awards ceremony at 6 p.m. Aug 25.

The free, family-friendly festival will feature 100 fine artists from across the country, youth art and literary exhibits at the Agricultural & Industrial Museum at 217 W. Princess St. and multiple chances to catch live music performances.

Youth literary entries are due by May 18, and youth art entries are due by July 20. Entries can be dropped off at Creative York on North Beaver Street during gallery hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Saturday’s events include the historic Codorus Creek boat parade, which will launch at 2 p.m. from Bantz Park, and a free community jazz concert at 6 p.m., with local performers Extremity and The Jost Project performing at the Capitol Theatre.
