A woman died Thursday morning after being struck by a car in Springettsbury Township, and police are asking witnesses to come forward.

Dana E. Salters, 34, of the 3200 block of East Market Street, was struck about 6:50 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to York County Coroner Pam Gay.

It happened in the 3000 block of East Market Street, according to Springettsbury Township Police. That's near Barnhart's Hospitality Inn and Moe's Southwest Grill.

Salters was struck by a westbound Chevrolet Malibu driven by Roger Broadwater, 26, of the township, police said.

Police said they haven't yet determined whether Salters was crossing the street or walking along the side of the road in the westbound lane when she was struck.

Investigators are asking that witnesses contact them right away.

John Lawton, right, of the Springettsbury Township Police Department, in York on Friday, Dec. 18, 2015. The money was part of a $1,000 dollar donation made by a family who asked for it to be given to the community by the department. (Dawn J. Sagert - The York Dispatch)

That portion of East Market Street remained closed until about 11 a.m. so the fatal crash scene could be forensically mapped, police said.

An autopsy is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Allentown's Lehigh Valley Hospital, Gay said. More details about the cause and manner of Salters' death will be released after the autopsy, the coroner said.

Award recipient: In 2015, Dana and Michael Salters were approached by police the week before Christmas as they were walking back to their home in the Yorkshire House Apartments.

Springettsbury Township Police were handing out $100 bills to random people after the department received an anonymous donation of $1,000 for the purpose of distributing money to the community.

The couple said they appreciated the unexpected gift.

Anyone who saw the crash is asked to call Springettsbury Township Police at 717-757-3525.
