New Salem man in wheelchair struck, killed crossing street
A 51-year-old man operating a motorized wheelchair was struck by a vehicle Sunday night in New Salem while crossing the street and later died of his injuries, according to police.
Oliver F. Beagan Jr., of New Salem, was crossing the road in the area of 320 N. Main St., near People's Bank, when he was struck, police said. The West Manchester Police Department was dispatched to the scene about 8:40 p.m.
Beagan was transported to York Hospital, where he died at 9:23 p.m., according to the York County Coroner's Office.
The driver, Ryan Messimer, was not injured in the crash and is cooperating with the police, according to a police news release.
An autopsy was scheduled for noon Monday at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, according to the coroner's office.
