The York County Commissioners will no longer hold public meetings every week, instead opting to switch to a bi-monthly plan for 2017.

Commissioners, after meeting every Wednesday last year, will move public meetings to the first and third Wednesdays of each month.

County spokesman said commissioners have been holding weekly meetings for decades as he traced the origin back to at least 1924. The switch is to free up time to do other important things, Walters said, though commissioners may hold additional Wednesday meetings on an as-needed basis.

Just as they did last year, they also will conduct four of their meetings away from the York County Administrative Building in York City.

The "on-the-road" meetings will take place at the following fire halls:

  • Feb. 15 at York County Fire School, at 330 Emig Road in Manchester Township.
  • May 3 at Eureka Fire Co., at 82 N. Main St. in Stewartstown.
  • Aug. 16 at York Area United Fire and Rescue, at 50 Commons Drive in Springettsbury Township.
  • Nov, 1 at Penn Township Fire Co. at 204 Clover Lane in Hanover.

Agendas for meetings, as well as meeting minutes, can be found online at under the "county administration" tab.
