As holiday festivities come to a close, the York City Public Works Department is telling residents how to get rid of their Christmas trees.

Christmas trees will be collected by city workers from Tuesday, Jan. 3, through Friday, Jan. 13, to be chipped for mulch, according to a news release.

Trees put out after Jan. 13 will be collected by Republic Services, the city’s contracted trash collector, and will not be mulched, according to the release.

Trees should be placed at regular trash pickup locations by 6 a.m. on residents’ designated collection days.

Residents should not use tree bags to dispose of their trees, according to the release. Residents are reminded to remove all ornaments, lights, tinsel and tree stands before placing the trees out for collection.
