The six representatives issued a joint statement describing the program, which is open to residents 65 years or older, widows and widowers 50 years or older and those with disabilities 18 years or older.

“Eligible participants can receive a rebate, which is based on income, of up to $650 for rent or property taxes paid in 2015," the release states. "Supplemental rebates can boost rebates for qualifying homeowners to $975."

Annual income limits are $35,000 for homeowners and $15,000 for renters, and half of Social Security income is excluded. The program is funded through the state lottery and slot games.

Applications and assistance are available at the representatives' district offices, and claimants can check their status at www.revenue.pa.gov or by calling 1-888-728-2937 (1-888-PA-TAXES).
