Coroner IDs man struck, killed by own vehicle
The York County Coroner's Office has released the name of an elderly Heidelberg Township man who was killed Tuesday morning when he was struck by his own pickup truck.
Robert Belford Sr., 78, of the 6300 block of Old Hanover Road, died of multiple traumatic injuries, according to the coroner's office, which has ruled his death accidental.
Belford was working on his truck sometime Tuesday morning when the fatal mishap occurred.
Southwestern Regional Police Sgt. Jamie Stalcup said Belford was working on his pickup truck when it started rolling downhill.
Belford became pinned between the open driver door and a utility pole, after which the truck continued rolling into a structure, leaving Belford at the base of the pole, according to Stalcup.
It appears Belford tried to get into the pickup truck to stop it, according to the coroner's office, which said he was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Jeffri Goodfellow.
No autopsy is planned, the coroner's office said.
