Get free winter coats in York City
Winter is coming, according to The Salvation Army — so you should pick up a coat if you need one.
The Salvation Army will be giving out free winter coats on Thursday, Nov. 3, at its building at 114 S. Duke St. in York City, the organization said in a news release.
The men's, women's and kids' coats will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the building's all-purpose room, according to the release. Most of the coats came from the WGAL-TV 8 Coats for Kids campaign and were cleaned by members of the Pennsylvania Dry Cleaners Association, according to a news release.
The TV station's coats campaign this year kicks off Monday, Nov. 14, and runs through its telethon on Wednesday, Dec. 9, the release states. Anyone who wants to participate can take still-good coats to participating dry cleaners.
In the York area, that includes Devono’s Cleaners, Hanna Cleaners, Trust and Zips Dry Cleaners, according to the news release. The cleaners will accept up to three coats from a family, clean them and give them to The Salvation Army.
Coats received this winter that end up not being needed will be stored for next year’s late-fall distribution, according to the release.
