A man was shot to death Monday evening in York City's west end, according to York City Police.

Rajshi Cox, 43, of York City, was shot to death around 7:45 p.m. in a vehicle in the 400 block of West King Street, according to a news release from police.

Lt. Troy Bankert, who supervises the York City Police Department's detective bureau, said the victim died at the scene. He didn't share any other further details at the time.

Several people at the scene were crying, and one identified herself as a close friend of the victim, but all declined to speak with the media.

Neighbor Alex Orta said he lives about a block away and was at home when he heard about four shots from what sounded like a handgun followed quickly by a volley from an automatic weapon.

"I don't like to go out here in this hood after dark," he said.

On Sept. 20, two people were shot, one fatally, just a few blocks away in the city's west end, which has seen more than its share of the city's violence.

He said just the other day he was walking down the street when someone stuck a gun in his face and asked him who was in a car he'd just walked past. Orta said he didn't know, and the guy who pulled the gun let him leave.

"It's getting bad, man," he said. "It's getting bad."

He looked over at the evidence markers on the sidewalk in the middle of the block where police continued to investigate, cast in alternating red and blue as the lights on several squad cars flashed in the dark after 9 p.m.

"If I'd said the wrong thing, that coulda been me," Orta said.

Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to call the York City Police Department, 717-846-1234, or text tips to 847-411.
