A York City man is accused of shooting his girlfriend after an argument early Wednesday morning, according to charging documents filed by York City Police.

Timothy Williams, 54, of 562 Pennsylvania Ave., was taken into custody after Michele Williams, 45, was found with a gunshot wound in front of her home in the 800 block of West Princess Street, according to charging documents. He is charged with aggravated assault and prohibited possession of a firearm, documents state.

The incident: Police were sent to 829 W. Princess St. about 6:30 a.m. Michele Williams was found with a wound above her left knee, according to charging documents.

Despite the two having the same last name, Michele Williams is not Timothy Williams' wife, but his girlfriend, police said.

Michele Williams said she was having an argument with Timothy Williams at her home, and during the argument, Timothy Williams brandished a handgun, police said.

Timothy Williams then chased Michele Williams out of the apartment, police said.

"Michele stated that she was afraid Timothy was going to shoot her, so she ran out the front door and around to the drivers side of her car," the officer wrote in the charging documents.

She told police she though he fired three shots, the first of which was fired into the air, police said. She said Timothy Williams then fired a round into the passenger side windshield, according to police.

"Timothy then chased her around the car and fired another shot that struck Michele in the left leg just above her knee," charging documents state.

Michele Williams told police that he had taken his car and driven off and said he was either going to Dover for work or his home, according to police. At about 6:45 a.m., a West Manchester Township Police officer took Timothy Williams into custody, documents state.

According to Timothy Williams' criminal history in the state, he is a convicted felon and is not allowed to have a firearm, according to police.

Michele Williams was taken to York Hospital shortly after being found, according to Lt. Troy Bankert, who supervises the York City Police Department's detective division.

"She is in stable condition, last we heard this morning," he said Wednesday afternoon.

Timothy Williams was remanded to York County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail.
