A Jackson Township woman was fatally shot in the head Monday night by her estranged husband, who then turned the gun on himself, officials said.

Susan Hoke, 50, of 1250 Summit Run Court, had an active protection from abuse order against 42-year-old Scott Hoke, according to Northern York County Regional Police.

Scott Hoke killed his wife and himself in their Jackson Township home Monday.

Both Scott Hoke, of 1748 Cemetery Road in North Codorus Township, and Susan Hoke died of gunshot wounds to the head, according to the York County Coroner's Office.

York County Coroner Pam Gay's office has ruled Susan Hoke's death a murder, and ruled Scott Hoke's death a suicide, according to a news release. Chief Deputy Coroner Claude Stabley and Deputy Coroner Tania Zech both responded to the scene.

No autopsies are planned.

Northern Regional Lt. David Lash said officers were called to Susan Hoke's home about 10:40 p.m. Monday for a reported shooting.

When they arrived, they found both Hokes dead in the kitchen, with Scott Hoke still gripping a handgun in his hand, according to Lash.

Murder victim had PFA against ex, who assaulted her at water park

Susan Hoke had an active PFA against her estranged husband, Lash said.

The couple's 17-year-old daughter was home at the time, but didn't witness the shootings, he said.

The teen was in a different part of the house and, after the shooting, fled to a neighbor's home and called 911, Lash said.

Lash said his department hadn't been called to Hoke's home in recent years for anything except service on the PFA.

There were no signs of forced entry to the home, and it's not yet clear how Scott Hoke got inside, the lieutenant said.

Police are asking anyone with information to call them at (717) 292-3647 or leave a tip online at nycrpd.org.

"We're trying to understand the situation and the relationship, and (identify) precipitating factors that would have led to this incident," Lash said.
