Giant: Recall on multiple Asher's chocolate candy products
After a recall was announced Saturday, Giant Food Stores are pulling six Asher's chocolate candy products from store shelves because of potential salmonella contamination.
Among the products included in the recall are Asher's milk chocolate mini pretzels, dark chocolate mini pretzels, almond butter crunch and both Asher's Fall Pack flavors of milk chocolate and dark chocolate.
According to a news release, Giant has received no reports of illness so far.
Salmonella contamination can lead to salmonellosis, a potentially life-threatening bacterial illness particularly dangerous to those with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and those infected with the HIV/AIDS virus, the release said.
Symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever occurring with 72 hours of infection. Other symptoms include chills, headache, nausea and vomiting lasting up to seven days.
Anyone seeking more information about the recall is asked to call the Asher's Chocolates customer service line at 1-888-288-3880 or Giant's customer service at 1-888-814-4268.
Customers who have purchased these products recently should return the unused portions with their receipt to the Giant location where they were bought them for a full refund, the release said.
